Prayer of a Grieving Heart

Can’t sleep because the wheels of your mind won’t stop turning?!
Have you ever wished for a switch to turn your mind OFF?!
One night my mind was in a whirl thinking about my dear friends whose son had just been killed in a car accident.  He was only 16, full of life and love.
This unwelcome news is a parents worst nightmare.
An unforgettable tragedy!
A life-changing event.

What do you say when something like this happens?  Words seem so feeble to express what’s in your heart at a time like this!
“The Prayer of a Grieving Heart” is an expression from the wheels turning in my head (and heart) that night. . .

Death is not a respecter of persons. Death happens to the old. Death happens to the middle aged. Death happens to the young. Death happens to teenagers. Death happens to babies.

Sometimes death brings unanswered questions and fear. . .
The verse in this prayer was comforting to me . . .
I pray it will comfort you, too.

Prayer of a Grieving Heart
My heart is breaking, O Lord,
The hurt goes way down deep . . .
My soul is distressed,
My mind is perplexed,
No rest ’cause I can’t sleep.

Life’s brittle thread was broken . . .
Death came as such a blow. . .
It seems so final,
No Goodbyes said,
Lord, I miss my child so!

Questions, Questions, Questions . . .
So many run through my mind,
I find no answers,
My soul feels numb,
Lord, where’s the peace I desire to find?

Nothing could have prepared me
For a grief that’s so intense . . .
Time seems to stand still . . .
Wrestling with my will . . .
Faith in Thee my only defense.

In the Bible I’m reminded
“Perfect love casts out fear”
I feel so weak,
Thy blessing I seek,
As I look to Thee through my tears.

Take away this “fear and torment”
Love like Thine, O Lord, give to me . . .
Comfort my soul,
Again make me whole,
Glimpses of Heaven send to me!  Amen

IJohn 4:18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  We love Him because He first loved us.  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.  God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
